November 21-23, 2019	2019 Thanksgiving Classic, W. Springfield, MA - Holyoke KC Obedience & Rally Trials, South Windsor KC Obedience & Rally Trials, LEAP and TMAC Agility Trials - We were quite busy these past few days ... November 21 (Margaret's Birthday) it was a day of Rally Obedience: Dazzle performed nicely and earned qualifying scores in Rally Excellent and Rally Advanced, earning the sixth leg towards her RAE title. She's so happy doing this! Slider earned a qualifying score and the second leg toward his Rally Novice title. November 22 (the next day) we were also quite busy: Tripper had a good run in Rally Advanced (his first time entered in that class) and earned the first qualifying score towards his RA title. In Agility, Dazzle earned a qualifying run and 12 more PACH points in Master Jumpers Preferred. Slider was entered in his first ever agility trial and earned a first place finish in his height class in Novice Standard Agility! November 23 (the day after that): Slider was at it again ... in his height class he finished second in Novice Standard, and first in Novice Jumpers. All totaled, Slider earned two legs towards his NA title and one leg towards his NAJ title. Terry did all the Rally handling while Margaret did all the Agility handling. We're home now, but we're really tired (and happy)!
September 29, 2019	Nassau Dog Training Club - Obedience and Rally Trials - Oyster Bay, NY - It was a beautiful day for an outdoor show at the Planting Fields Arboretum. Dazzle competed in Rally Excellent and Rally Advanced. Handled by Terry, she earned qualifying scores with a fourth place finish in Excellent and a third place finish in Advanced. This makes it a total of five double qualifiers towards her RAE title. Hooray for Dazzle!
August 9 - 11, 2019	The Keystone Cluster - Harrisburg, PA - Islandflats makes it's annual trek to Pennsylvania for the summer dog show cluster: Aug 9: Penn Ridge KC - Rally Trials:Dazzle competed in Rally Excellent and in Rally Advanced. Handled by Terry, she earned a qualifying score in both classes. This is her fourth double qualifier towards her RAE title. It was a long day for her but Dazzle really had a lot of fun doing this. Slider competed in his first ever Rally trial and he earned a qualifying score and a third place finish in Rally Novice. Slider was also handled by Terry. In conformation, Tripper (handled by Margaret) won BOB and he also showed in the Group rings but without great success. Aug 10: Penn Ridge KC - In a fairly large Flat-Coated Retriever entry, Judge Steven Keating awarded Slider and Margaret, Best Owner-Handler. Later in the day, both Tripper and Slider competed against each other in Owner-Handler Sporting Group. Margaret handled Tripper, Terry handled Slider. We were overjoyed when judge Robert E Stein awarded Slider fourth place! This is Slider's first Group placement. This was also his first showing since earning his championship last month! Aug 11: Harrisburg KC dog shows: Back to Rally today and Tripper (handled by Terry) earned a first place finish in Rally Intermediate. That's his third leg and with that comes a new title: CH Nautica's Day Tripper BN RN "RI" NA OAJ CGC. We had loads of fun with our dogs at this cluster and we were also able to spend time with good friends. We're looking forward to going there again someday!
July 13, 2019	A NEW AKC CHAMPION !!! Brookhaven KC dog shows - Middle Island, NY - today was unique in that there were two dog shows held concurrently at the same site on the same day.Slider was entered in both shows and with Margaret as handler he accomplished something great ... Show #1: Judge Ann Roth awarded Slider Winners Dog and Best of Breed! Show #2: Judge Cindy Lane awarded Slider Winners Dog and Best of breed! The combination of two BOBs gives Slider enough points to satisfy the AKC requirement to be awarded his CHAMPION title. Slider is now known as *CH Blazin's Payoff Pitch CGC. It just so happens that the title was won at home - on Long Island - and to make things even more special, today is also Bailey's* birthday. New toys and extra cookies for all the dogs!
July 3 - 7, 2019	The Yankee Classic - W. Springfield, MA - The Islandflats crew heads up to New England for the annual Independence Day cluster of dog shows. July 3 - Holyoke KC Obedience and Rally trials - It was Terry and Dazzle working in both Rally Excellent and Rally Advanced. Dazzle earned a qualifying score in each class which was her third double "Q" towards her RAE title! Dazzle knows that she would have scored better if her handler didn't make so many mistakes bet she still loves her daddy. July 4 - Holyoke KC dog show - Margaret handled Slider in conformation today. Judge Ken Buxton awarded him Winners Dog and Best of Winners for another point towards his AKC championship title. Watch out, he's getting closer .... July 5 - Kenilworth Kennel Club of Connecticut dog show - Margaret handled Tripper in conformation where judge Theresa Hundt awarded him Select Dog and two more points towards his grand champion title. Handled by Terry, Slider passed the needed requirements to earn his Canine Good Citizen certification! That gives him a new title (his first): Blazin's Payoff Pitch "CGC". He impressed the evaluator who labeled him, "A perfect gentleman." July 7 - Naugatuck Valley KC dog show - Margaret and Terry "split" the handling duties in conformation today. Judge Donna Buxton awarded Slider Winner's Dog. He earned another point towards his championship title. Now he only needs two more!
June 22 - 23, 2019	Taconic Hills KC - Early Summer Agility trial, Bayshore, NY - Margaret took Dazzle out for some agility fun this weekend ... June 22: Dazzle earns a first place finish, 8 more PACH points and the ninth leg needed towards a new title in Master Jumpers Preferred. June 23: With another first place finish in Master Jumpers Preferred, Dazzle earns the tenth leg needed for a new title! Now she's known as Breezy Hill's Heart N Soul of Islandflats CD GN RE "MJP" CGC. It took some time for her to win all ten legs but we're so happy. Sure, we're happy about the title, but we're also happy that Dazzle had a good opportunity to run around and have a lot of fun. Hooray Dazzle!
June 8 - 9, 2019	Paws by the Sea Cluster, East Norwalk, CT - Greenwich KC Dog Show (Saturday June 8th) - The NEFCRC supported the Flatcoat entry today, so Slider couldn't resist an entry or two ... Handled by Margaret, he was awarded Best in Sweeps in the Puppy Sweepstakes! The judge was Jennifer Andrews. In the regular classes Slider was a little fidgety in the ring, but breeder judge Maria White handed him Reserve Winners Dog (to the major)! Longshore-Southport KC Dog Show (Sunday June 9th) - Today Tripper was entered in the National Owner Handlers Series competition and he was awarded Third Place in the Sporting Group under judge Neal Goodwin. That's more points earned towards his national ranking. We had beautiful weather these two days in a very nice park in CT. Outdoor shows can be so much fun.
May 26, 2019	LEAP Agility Club of Central Mass - Memorial Day agility trials, Tolland, CT - She had a beautiful run in Master Jumpers Preferred today. Handled by Margaret, Dazzle earned another qualifying score and another leg towards her title. This is her 8th leg towards the coveted MJP title. We're so proud of our FCR girl!
May 17-19, 2019	The Gold Coast Cluster - Ladies Kennel Association of America dog shows, Oyster Bay, NY - there was a light entry for a Friday (5/17) afternoon dog show, but Tripper was there. Handled by Margaret, Tripper was awarded a third place finish in the NOHS Sporting Group under judge Elizabeth Muthard. We're hoping that he can climb the NOHS national rankings after today; we'll find out at the end of the month. Good boy Tripper! On Saturday (5/18) it was Slider's turn to shine ... Handled by Margaret, judge Elizabeth Muthard awarded Slider: Winners Dog, and Best of Winners. This adds another point towards his championship progression and now he only needs 5 more points for the title. Good boy Slider! Sunday (5/19) - Long Island KC dog show - Slider took the spotlite again as he was awarded Winners Dog and Best of Winners. Handled by Margaret, Slider earned another point towards his championship. The judge was Charles Olvis.
May 4, 2019	Bucks County KC dog show, Erwinna, PA - It's Star Wars Day (May the Fourth) today ... The MAFCRC held it's Supported Entry today and our boy Slider was awarded Best of Opposite Sex to the winner in the Puppy Sweepstakes. The judge was Deb Brady. Slider also won his class in the regular classes. Later in the afternoon, Tripper competed in the NOHS Sporting Group and was awarded fourth place under judge Neal Goodwin. Both dogs were handled by Margaret. The weather was iffy most of the day but our boys still went out and did a good job. The force was with us!
April 7, 2019	Trap Falls KC Dog Show, W. Springfield, MA - Slider did it again! Handled by Margaret, Slider was awarded another four point major under breeder judge Kurt D. Anderson! For some unexplained reason, our FCRs generally don't win much in W. Springfield, but today Slider broke the streak. Now he has both his required majors and 9 points towards his championship. We'll keep showing Slider in conformation and ... who knows?
March 24, 2019	Bronx County KC, Dog Show, Edison, NJ - There were enough Flat-Coated-Retrievers at today's show to form a major, and today Slider (one of those entered) was awarded Winner's Dog and Best of Winners by judge Doug Johnson! He's still relatively inexperienced to the show ring but this was a four point major! Handled by Margaret, Slider looked great strutting around the ring when he was handed the ribbon. This was a big win for Slider; we couldn't be happier!
February 25, 2019	It's another birthday celebration at Islandflats today as Tripper turns 4! The time passes quickly as it seems like we recently brought home our Field Spaniel puppy. Tripper gets toys and birthday cake. We're all partying at Islandflats today!
February 21, 2019	We have a new Veteran at Islandflats! Today we're celebrating Dazzle's birthday - she is now 7 years old. She has a very distinguished "touch of gray" on her muzzle but she still acts and behaves like a young puppy. It's toys and cake for Dazzle on her birthday today!
February 2, 2019	Today would be Crystal's 17th birthday. This special day inspired us to remember all our dogs who are no longer with us. Today is our third annual Islandflats Memorial Day. On this day we reflect on the love and happiness that all our dogs brought us throughout the years. The good times and the bad times are forever etched in our memories and our love for these dogs is forever etched in our hearts.
January 26 - 27, 2019	Staten Island Companion DTC, Agility Trials, Clifton, NJ - Jan 26: Dazzle did it again! Handled by Margaret, Dazzle ran in Master Jumpers Preferred, and today she earned a qualifying score, a third place finish, 8 more PACH points and the 6th leg towards her MJP title. WOW Dazzle. Jan 27: She didn't stop there. Once again Dazzle and Margaret ran in Master Jumpers Preferred and this time she earned a qualifying score, a fourth place finish, 10 more PACH points and the 7th leg towards her MJP title! Tripper also ran today in Open Jumpers and he earned a qualifying score and a second place finish. With that comes a new agility title! Now he's known as CH Nautica's Day Tripper BN RN NA "OAJ" CGC. Tripper is still practicing his Open Standard Agility and we're hoping that someday soon he might also add that title to his list of achievements.
January 13, 2019	Dog Agility Club of Long Island, Winter Agility Trials, Bayshore, NY - It's cold outside, so to keep warm, Islandflats dogs are running agility. Dazzle competed in Master Jumpers Preferred and earned a first place finish and another qualifying score towards her MJP title, and 8 more PACH points. This is her fifth leg - only five more to go!
January 11, 2019	We're having a Birthday Celebration today! Our young puppy Slider turns one year old. He's a sweet boy who fit into our family very nicely and he's really starting to show off some very nice features as a full grown Flat Coated Retriever. Here's a message to: Pixel, Benji, Elsa, Teague, Pivot, Seville, Aisling and Rumble from your littermate Slider, "Happy Birthday!"
